Every local driver knows how much it costs to take out insurance in Michigan, or at the very least how expensive it used to be.
Following the latest changes to the formerly obligatory PIP medical benefits, automobile owners can now give up the health-related part of the coverage and significantly reduce their premiums.
But what’s the catch?
Once you choose to opt-out of the healthcare section of PIP, you need to prove the existence of other health coverage like commonly known Medicare or alternative option that meets the specific requirements.
These changes do not reduce the volume of paperwork. On the contrary, drivers should brace themselves for an extensive period of signing forms on top of forms.
Every six months, you have to sign the recertification documents. Otherwise, the rates will go way up, and you might end up paying twice as much in your premiums.
Drivers can still choose permanent health benefits if they can afford expensive coverage.
